Winter visitors to the Camden-area might be surprised to learn that this little harbor town features its own downhill skiing facility: the Camden Snow Bowl.
Long a center of winter activity for the community, especially families, this town-owned ski area has been operating on Ragged Mountain since the 1950s. Local kids learn to ski at the Snow Bowl and to skate on nearby Hosmer Pond. The high school ski team (and others) compete there. You can rent a toboggan and enjoy a ten-second thrill as you zip down the toboggan chute. Cross-country skiers can access the Round the Mountain Trail and others from the main lodge. And in recent years, the US National Toboggan Championship has established a festival atmosphere on the mountain and pond for one special weekend in February. If you’re looking for a big winter party in 2017, you want to be here February 4 – 5 for Winterfest through February 10 – 12 for the toboggan races!
While not a big ski area, the Snow Bowl has a lot to offer. Recent renovations upgraded a t-bar and double chairlift to double and triple chairs and a carpet lift for beginners, expanded the number of trails to 20–including glades and terrain parks–and improved snow-making equipment. The total vertical drop of over 1000′ means skiers of all abilities can enjoy themselves on the mountain. The Snow Bowl also features night skiing, ski lessons, affordable lift ticket prices and rentals, and a safe, small-town atmosphere in which you can drop off your kids for a day of skiing without worry.
The Snow Bowl also offers something that no other ski area can: an ocean view! Ski the Sea. And when you’re done playing in the snow for the day, the Midcoast area is home to many wonderful year-round restaurants where you can find top-notch apres-ski food and drink.
Give us a call today, and we’ll help you find the perfect vacation rental so that you and your family can enjoy some fun in the snow in one of the most scenic parts of Maine. The Snow Bowl has been steadily making snow and opened for the season on December 17, 2016–the snowy Camden Hills now await you!
